The Popla Foothills Skyview Tower in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom serves as a vital fast-travel node and mapping point for the Faron region. Unlike standard towers that open immediately upon arrival, this particular location presents players with an unpowered terminal that requires assistance to fix. Unlocking it involves a short underground rescue mission to assist an unlucky worker trapped beneath the hills.
Locating the Tower and the Initial Problem
Situated in the southern portion of Hyrule, the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower sits nestled in the hills of Faron. When players first inspect the activation terminal, they will notice the console is completely unpowered and unresponsive. Nearby, calls for help can be heard originating from a well located directly outside the tower site.
Dropping down into the well reveals a trapped technician named Elmerson who got locked inside a cage mechanism. He promises to repair the terminal if Link can find a way to free him from the cell. However, the switch to open his door is located on the opposite side of the underground gate.
Finding the Excavation Site Entrance
To reach the mechanism behind Elmerson's cell, players must exit the well using the Ascend ability to return to the surface. Head south from the tower toward the cliff face to find the entrance to the Popla Foothills Excavation Site. This short tunnel leads directly into the back section of the underground chamber.
Inside the cave, step onto the circular floor switch to trigger the heavy gate and release the trapped worker. As a token of gratitude, Elmerson rewards Link with Rupees before heading back up to repair the tower. Players can also place an object on the pressure plate to keep the shortcut accessible for future cave exploration.
Activating the Skyview Tower
After rescuing Elmerson, use the Ascend ability or trek back up the hill to return to the tower base. You will find Elmerson standing beside the now fully operational terminal. Speaking with him confirms that the tower's systems have been restored and are ready for use.
Interact with the terminal to register the fast-travel location and launch Link into the sky. Scanning the region reveals both the surface map for Faron and the surrounding sky islands. Unlocking this area provides easy aerial access to nearby shrines, dragons, and key exploration points across southern Hyrule.
